Induction Motor with an Egg-Shaped Rotor
A similar motor was specially constructed for an exhibition at the World Fair in Chicago in 1893, organized on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of Columbus’ discovery of America. It was constructed based on Tesla’s design by Charles Scott, engineer of the Westinghouse Company. With this model, Tesla gave an original rendition of the legendary story about the egg of Columbus standing on its end and at the same time demonstrated his induction motor based on the rotating magnetic field to the general public: the invention that secured him an outstanding place in
the history of electricity.
Operated with a set for automatic control of working models. Visitors are allowed to start the model by pressing the green push-button.
