The first major hydro-electric plant in the world, based on Tesla’s system of polyphase alternating currents, constructed on Niagara Falls and put in commercial operation on November 16, 1896. The first transfer of electrical current was made from Niagara Falls Power Plant to the city of Buffalo, about 25 miles away.
