French astronomer and physicist Arago was the first to explain the phenomenon of magnetic rotation in Paris in 1825. In two experiments he produced reaction between the magnetic needle and the cooper plate. Babbage and Herschel manage to perform reversed Arago’s experiment and forced the cooper plate into rotation by rotating the magnet below.
